I have a customer for our feed store who is a professor at Rice. We also own a gun store and it's all integrated. We get to talking about guns and she says "I think this campus carry thing is ridiculous!" The conversation was about 30 minutes, but the essence was that she didn't want a bunch of kids with guns running around and intimidating her if she gave them a bad grade. I had the conversation about A) it won't be kids...you still have to be 21 which basically means senior, grad student, or teacher, and B) anyone wanting to commit felony assault isn't going to NOT do it because "darn, I'd stick a gun in your face if Rice didn't have a "gun free zone" policy!".
But wait. There's more.
She teaches some kind of art or photography. She said "I tell all my girls in class to keep a bottle of developing acid in by them in the darkroom. Then if someone comes in, just throw that bottle of acid at them."
She said Rice will ban guns and they can because they're private. But her colleagues at UT Austin are at a state school and they are "afraid for their lives" because UTA can't ban guns.
Yes, this is the mentality of the people teaching your kids at elite private (and public) schools. I'm sure the OP professor falls in this category. She may be smart, but she's a darn idiot.
It seems like a race between the professors and the students as who can show the greatest lack of common sense.
