Re: Kindergartner suspended for making gun jesture

I just researched the school information and will be sending a respectful letter today to the principal about how much I disapprove of this situation. From the article, the father's willingness to press the issue caused the principal and her administration to fold and rescind the suspension. But for me, that isn't enough.

First, I'm outraged at a suspension for any 5 year old. If the school has a behavior problem with the child, the parents should be notified and given the opportunity to deal with their child. I do recognize that not all parents are willing to take such actions but I believe that every parent has the right to an chance to do it and the school has no right to assume that they won't, based solely on the reactions of other parents. This part obviously has nothing to do with guns.

Secondly, kids, particularly little ones, are very fragile. They are so trusting and so eager that the best way to handle their actions that are not acceptable is to work directly with them to help them understand better choices. It should have been a "teachable moment" instead of a suspension. It might have been different if the boy in question had done this as a disruption in the classroom but to be given a suspension for playing on the playground, the action should have been something that actually could have caused harm to a classmate.

And lastly, I'm not willing to bypass any situation any more that involves an anti-gun agenda in the public schools. I may also write a letter to the superintendent of the district, expressing my respectful displeasure of the implied political gesture. Until more of us take overt action and start calling educational Libs on their actions, those actions will continue and get worse.

I hope that mine letter is amid of flood of respectful mail that the district gets. This nonsense needs to stop....now.
