WASHINGTON — A federal ban on assault weapons cleared a Democratic-run Senate committee Thursday in a party-line vote after its chief sponsor, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) clashed with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) over the 2nd Amendment.

“I’ve looked at bodies that have been shot with these weapons,” Feinstein snapped at Cruz after he questioned her on the Constitution. “It’s fine if you want to lecture me on the Constitution. Just know that I’ve been here for a long time,” citing her 20 years on the Judiciary Committee.

Although the 10-8 vote advanced the bill to the full Senate, the hard work now begins for Feinstein, who wrote the 1994 law only to see it expire in 2004.

Not only did every one of the Judiciary Committee’s Republicans vote against the bill, but Feinstein has struggled to line up support among rural-state Democrats, some of whom are up for reelection next year. “The road is uphill. I fully understand it,” said Feinstein, who recently called the assault weapons ban a “life’s mission for me.”
We can only hope that when the bill fails in the full Senate (or perhaps doesn't even get voted on to spare Red State Dems), she melts like the wicked witch of the east in the Wizard of Oz, her life's mission over. Of course, stuff like that only happens in the movies. DiFi will be around a long time to continue her torment law-abiding American citizens.

Conservative new sites seem to have the opinion it likely won't even pass the Democrat controlled senate, much less the House. I don't even think Harry Reid is in favor of it.
That doesn't mean he won't vote for it, if the price is right.

Reid probably won't be facing the voters again, having been re-elected last time, so is in the dangerous position of being able to do whatever he wants, to help the country, to help the party, to help his benefactors, to help whoever he feels like.
Part of me wants the Senate vote to occur. As long as I was sure that it wasn't going to pass, I'd love to see a lot of the Red State Dems have to stand up in public and vote against it - or commit suicide in the next election and vote for it. Either of those would be good. I think Uncle Harry understands how perilous that choice would be and is going to make sure that it doesn't happen. His actions are not based on his own beliefs though he does have a good record of not pushing gun control bills. Unlike others, I think he is a political pragmatist first and an ideologue second.
