Put something out there that the MSM and others have to deal with and cannot ignore. To me, the haste to pass the bill, demonstrated by their failure to exempt LEOS and the underlying theme of confiscation are major points to be placed in the public's eye. The politicians can no longer hide behind "we are just doing it for the children" with those facts to undermine their story.
