According to Julie Tam on the NBC5 News in Dallas on the 6PM broadcast tonight (7/25), the killer had a "license for his gun." I watched all of the film clips on their website but that part of the story was not in any of the clips. Based on the 10 o'clock news, he probably wasn't. He had a history of domestic violence and a previous court order to stay away.
On a personal note. I spent a lot of time there as a kid. The only thing I'm surprised at is that it took this long for something like that to happen there,
The protective order was issued but rescinded I wonder who is responsible to have a CHL revoked when a protective order is issued? I would think that local jurisdiction that issued that order would be the ones to do it. The order was old enough that some action should have occurred if it was ever going to happen. Based on the order being cancelled, I'm not sure what should have happened. I'm also not sure that it would have made any difference, even if his original gun were taken.
This may be another case like the Arizona shooting where disqualifying information was not used to try to thwart an identified problem.
