We went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner this evening. It was a party and we were asked to attend or I won't set foot in the place because they have always been 30.06 and 30.07 posted. They have the "unlicensed" TABC signs clearly on the front doors and I'm wondering if they believe that covers them for all unlicensed carry instead of a 30.05. If so, TABC is re-writing what the Legislature passed.

Re: Anyone Seen a 3005 Sign?
I much prefer the Texas system to that of other States. NM, in particular, has tiny signs and they may or may not prohibit open or concealed carry. The businesses are in the habit of posting all many of other signs and flyers and without a consistent format to look at, it is harder to find them - and the penalties for not finding them are more severe than Texas. I, personally, want all the help that I can get in determining what actions to take.cyphertext wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 9:13 pm
And I don't want to see yet another big ugly sign that I am going to have to look at to see if it applies to me as a LTC holder. Like I said in the response to Scott... with 30.06, things were simple, one big ugly sign to look out for and I knew I couldn't carry. Throw in 30.07, not too bad, but now I have to actually look at the sign to see if it applies to me, as they appear very similar at a glance. Now add yet another sign with 1" lettering, in both English and Spanish.
In that regard, many businesses are already stretching the "big ugly" signs into places and formats that make it harder. It is easy to miss one of the light white on clear glass signs that many of the medical establishments use - except that I already am nearly guaranteed that there will be such a sign on an medically related building.
It feels like some believe that the signs are either punishments for the business for prohibiting some manner of carry or punishments for those who might elect to carry, especially without a license. While I have no intention of getting rid of my LTC, I'm thrilled that we have Constitutional Carry. It is a help to me to see the businesses that don't like the law because I will do my best not to give them my business. We are supposed to be getting a HEB in my area and everyone is very happy. I'm not. While I'm not happy about the public statements made by the other grocery chains, I haven't seen a 30.05 sign at any of the. And that was one of my reasons for starting this thread - to see if any of those places were going to follow up the rhetoric with actions/signs. I'm much happier to see that only HEB is doing it.

Re: Anyone Seen a 3005 Sign?
Just saw a Facebook post from Shannon Watts crowing that HEB had put up signs "prohibiting permit-less carry" in Texas. There was no evidence of the actual sign provided. Now I'm curious if it IS a 30.05 sign. Anyone?

Re: Anyone Seen a 3005 Sign?
Perhaps so. But I knew the owner of a taco restaurant who is a really strong gun enthusiast and 2nd Amendment supporter. We were all shocked when he posted 30.07 signs in his restaurant. I asked he why and he said that if a customer came in an created a fuss over open carry and the police were called, he was required to report the incident to TABC in writing. The result could be him loosing his license and he wasn't willing to take that risk It could have been bunk and he could have had a different reason for the sign. Separately, I know that there was an incident in a local restaurant with guys carrying black powder pistols after a reenactment. A customer pitched a fit at seeing the guns and even the police lt who ended up on the scene could not calm her down. She demanded that they all be arrested. They managed to get her to leave instead. I understand that incident and the response to it from TABC was the genesis of the concerns. I have no first hand knowledge of any of it and can only go off what I've heard. It seems easy to believe given the way TABC handled things like municipalities putting up 51% signs at their events. I readily admit my natural bias toward bureaucratic fiefdoms and I consider the TABC to be one of them.ScottDLS wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 7:24 pm
TABC really had no statutory authority to hold ABC license holders responsible for weapons incidents in their stores any more then they did prior to open carry. All I ever saw after open carry was signs saying (incorrectly) that it was illegal to carry arms other than licensed handguns in these stores (i.e. concealed rifle). That wasn't illegal, though TABC could revoke a liquor license for stores that allowed it...presumably why they put up the (incorrect) signs.

Re: Anyone Seen a 3005 Sign?
With a bit of topic drift, the "Unlicensed" signs are definitely not coming down, even in the big retailers. I didn't expect Wal-Mart to put up a 30.05 sign. I did expect them in Sprouts, Whole Foods, etc. But I thought TABC would at least try to comply and send out correspondence to license holders. They seemed to be pretty aggressive at warning license holders that they were responsible for incidents in their places of business when open carry was implemented. Of course, the bureaucrats at TABC may be deliberately stalling, too.
Is it just me or is no one taking this new law seriously?

I found this link interesting. Apparently the organization who published the document advises local governments.

Re: Anyone Seen a 3005 Sign?
I figure if they were going to do that, they would have already done it. My opinion is that there are too many other things in the news cycle that demand their attention. It is a guess but SB8 is probably on a lot more minds now than CC.

Anyone Seen a 3005 Sign?
I've been looking in my area. We have our share of 06 and 07 with a many of the latter disappearing over time. I started with the usual suspects who post to see if there are any new signs but cannot find any. I might be looking at the wrong businesses but I expect that, if they were going to put up new signs, they would be up by now.
I've also looked to see if there are gun buster or other similar new signs and cannot find new ones of those either. I don't remember the last time that I saw anything that looks like a general "no guns" sign in Texas.
