i saw a post on the facebook page for "xd fans" that a guy is warning about the roller pin, located on top of the slide by the +1 indicator... he says his broke on a new gun. wondering if he is a member here or if anyone has heard about it being an issue?

yeah i agree after reading up on it... the dual recoil springs threw me off.

wow, didnt know there was a 4th gen. guess that shows how long ive been out of reality.

ok im confused... just did a google image search on it... and came up with a pic of a g21 with gills on the slide, and a g22 with replacable backstraps?

looks like ive got some research to do..

So why not just get a 1911? It has a grip safety just like a 1911; and it has a grip angle just like a 1911; and it has a thumb safety so you can get carry cocked and locked with 1 in the pipe... ...just like a 1911!

i dont trust 1911s. im not trying to open a can of worms here, but too many moving parts.

thanks to everyone who has replied, ive gotten a handfull or two of info on the xd that i had no idea about before.

the aftermarket parts/mods is one thing i have in mind... kinda like mp3 players. you know if you go with a ipod, you can find a case anywhere online, and cheap.. where as if you go with anything else, good luck. i guess its not too big of a deal for me considering im only looking to add night sights..

and on the backstrap safety- the reason i like it is when rolling +1, i could have a lighter trigger pull and not have any doubts about it, or at least i would have less doubts about it then no external safety at all..

but i guess it will all come down to test fire. maybe some of you guys would be willing to make a meet of it- id like to go up to top gun in houston and test fire both... and the different backstraps, and come to a final conclusion on my own.

i guess its hard to get my mind from thinking glock>everything else

im having a hard time picturing myself from carrying anything else. but hopefully like others have said, the grip angle and pointability of the xd-m will make me fall in love and take one home that day.

i have owned a glock 19, and loved it. im familiar with the glock torture test, the hundreds of law enforcement and millitary agencies across the world who have chosen glock as their service pistol, and im down with it... but..

it seems like every gun magazine i get my hands on over here in afghanistan has at least two xd-m ads in them, usually a page apart. i like the look of it, and i also like the idea of the backstrap safety, it would make me feel a tad better about carrying +1...

my question is for those who own BOTH
