Probably even more people think they are totally illegal for civilians to own. It's just lack of knowledge on the subject, influence from movies/Hollywood, and being told so by other "experts". My father Is a avid hunter and shooter. He had assured me my whole life that suppressors and machine guns were totally illegal. He is now educated on the subject but I don't think he totally believed me untill I showed him my suppressor. Advanced Armament has a great website (CAN U as in Can University)on the subject of how to legally own suppresors.

Re: Carbine suppressor

No permits required. You need a $200 tax stamp as others have stated. You will have to purchase the suppressor up front from an Class 3 dealers. The suppressor will stay with the dealer unitl the BATF has approved you transfer application (Form 4) and sent you the Tax Stamp. This part can take a while. I just got one back in about 6 months. Basically you send in the Form 4 and just forget about it for a while. Once the stamp is back the dealer will turn the suppressor over to you and its basically registered to you for life.

I agree with everyone else about the trust. If you really want to buy a suppressor then setting up a trust is the easiest way. If not the you have to get the Cheif Law Enforcement Officer (Sherriff in most cases) to sign of on the transfer. Depending on your County the Sheriff might not sign off. Supposedly that is in the works of being eliminated but until then if you register the suppressor as an individual you will need the CLEO signature.
