My situation was the same as yours, Houston destination and it took 5 days which was verified by the postage machine date and the post office date on the envelope. Go figure.zeke80 wrote:My status changed to "mailed" on Friday. I live in Houston and thought surely the Pony Express would get here from Austin by Monday. Apparently, that horse stopped for water along the way and now after the mail has arrived on Tuesday, still no plastic. I'll be looking out the window all day tomorrow until the mail gets here.

Re: April 2010 applications
A lot of good movement lately! It would appear that any backlog created by the FBI shutdown for Census Taker work has cleared and they are getting back to something closer to 4-5 weeks than 6-8 weeks. Congratulations to all!steve817 wrote:Mine just changed to mailed today.

Re: April 2010 applications
While it is no consolation, the law gives them 60 days to approve/deny the permit and yours was done in about +/- 40 days so they likely figure they got you done fast, particularly since the FBI slow down was during that period. When my wife and I took our class we were told that things were improving but it had been as bad as 120 days late last year do to problems in the department. We are all lucky they are getting them processed and produced in less than 60 days I guess.redlin67 wrote:Thanks for all the encouragement. I know that I am not the only one that is getting agravated at how slow DPS can be, but then I look back at some of the extreme waits people had to endure in the last couple of years and realize that we ain't really doing too bad.
I am sure you are like I am, "God grant me patience, and I want it NOW"!

Unless it gets held up by the Postal Service, my guess is you will have it early next week.redlin67 wrote:Okay, I had to call to get some information. My license is being printed and I should have it in 7 to 21 days. One to three weeks, that's crazy.

If my memory is correct that is about the length of time mine showed Manufacturing and that Thursday and Friday were big days for updates, my guess is that you will see your go to mailed before the weekend.redlin67 wrote: Aaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: April 2010 applications
I posted this in the Day-to-Day - LEO Contact section but thought some of the folks who are going through (or who have been through) the waiting game recently would enjoy it as another "Pseudo Wally Walk" experience report.
Had and interesting experience at lunch today. I have only had my CHL a few days and didn't carry for the first time until this past Monday. Today my office partner and fried went to Chick-fil-a in The Woodlands and I had to walk past a table of three Texas Highway Patrol officers. We got our lunch and walked past them again to a table right next to theirs. I ended up sitting so that my "carry hip" was exposed to all three officers, two relatively young guys and one who was obviously a seasoned veteran. Over the course of lunch we actually talked to the officers about their guns and the ammo they are currently using as well as carried on our own discussions regarding CHL and guns in general. Clearly they could hear our conversation so they knew I had a CHL but no mention was made that I was carrying since neither of my lunch guests knew that I was. We finished our lunch ahead of the officers so I had to get up and walk past them a third time. I guess this experience was good, particularly coming so early in the carry process, as it is clear that my carry method either was noticed by trained LEO's or was sufficient that it didn't cause any issues.
For the record, I was carrying a HK USP 40 Compact in a Galco Skyops IWB holster, wearing blue jeans and a short sleeve button down shirt tucked in to the waist. I am certain that the next time the anxiety level from wondering if my gun is "noticeable" will be substantially reduced.

Re: April 2010 applications
Actually it is hard to tell, I wouldn't think it would be any longer than that but it might be shorter too. I think there is a lot of "play" in the system depending on who is doing the work and how efficient they are. There have been cases where it went from Manufacturing to Mailed to in your hand in a few days to other cases like mine where it took 5 days from saying Mailed to the plastic showing up from Austin to Houston. You just can't take the status at full face value.glock22gen4 wrote:thanks for the reply....2 more week wait ill bet

Re: April 2010 applications
Nope, you have to make the next step where it will say Manufacturing, then will go to Mailed which as near as I can tell means it went to a department to be mailed, not actually placed into the US Postal Service.glock22gen4 wrote:my status on line says manufacturing pending is that the same as manufacturing?.....i am a new member but have been using this fourm for info, it has been very helpfull

Re: April 2010 applications
Well boys and girls, after a few wasted days waiting for my new holster to arrive, I got to do my pseudo-Wally Walking today. Didn't make it to Wally World as that just wasn't in the cards but did carry around the office today from about noon until quitting time. After that, my wife and I made a trip to Kroger for numerous items and covered the entire store including items low and high on the shelves. My wife still doesn't know I am carrying and I guess neither does anyone else so the process was a success.
My "walk" was in blue jeans with a casual short-sleeved button down shirt covering a new Galco Skyops holster made to fit my H&K USP 40 Compact. The holster works fine but I don't think it will be my ultimate choice as the Crossbread Super Tuck and CompTac Minotaur MTAC look really appealing and likely more comfortable. The Galco will do for now however and isn't uncomfortable, just not as comfortable as I think the others would be with the leather backing.
Sorry this isn't more exciting as there are no pictures and no gaudy Hawaiian shirts to discuss....LOL

Redlin, sure hope yours wraps up soon. After a period where things seemed to click along it appears that the temporary slowdown for Census processing has had a huge ripple effect on the April applications.

Re: April 2010 applications
Actually this falls into the category of "you either laugh, or you cry, and I hate to see a grown man cry"! I guess at the end of the day we all pretty much take it as it comes (typical governmental response) and wait our time out. I feel for you guys who are waiting though, even though I got mine yesterday my wife has had hers for a week and our applications were received by DPS the same day. To top it off the Postal Service took five days from Austin to The Woodlands. What really ads insult to injury is that the holster I ordered hasn't shown up so I am unarmed. Today is your day if you can find me in a dark alley!redlin67 wrote:So, you got yours yesterday, so now your going to harrass the rest of us? Let me catch you in a dark alley somewhere. Oh, wait! You have a gun and we don't, nevermind, just kidding.knb wrote:Teamless wrote:Ya know, I think that is the best way I have seen the waiting period stated!Fire1141 wrote:I'm like a kid on Christmas eve, only I don't know when Christmas is!

Hey Teamless, it is kind of fun harassing those still waiting now that we have ours..LOL
I guess it is kind of like telling your kids you can't wait until they have kids of their own.
I think all the techs at DPS must be on vacation at the same time. It seems that there has been no movement at all for any of us that at the background review stage.
