Well, I don't know about that. On several occasions when purchasing a firearm I heard the LGS person say the word "handgun" when doing the NICS check leading me to believe that the NICS person asked the LGS person what type firearm was being purchase. Why you ask do I not just provide my CHL to make the purchase. Well it has an incorrect abbreviation for the word circle (I live on a circle and the CHL has Cr. instead of Cir.) Some of these LGS people apparently have real sharp eyes. I called DPS and they said to not worry about it but I could request a new license if I wanted to. Figured they had bigger fish to fray so I have not ordered a new one.GlassG19 wrote:rob777 wrote:A friend called up yesterday to ask what I knew about the background check process and my response was 'not much'.
The issue he's come across is his son has been able to purchase a couple of handguns over the last year but went to buy an AR this week and was denied.
He has nothing on his record (that he's aware of) but confused that he can pass a background check for a handgun but not an AR. The store did not provide him a reason for the denial. (He does NOT have his LTC so he has to go through the background checks with every purchase)
So my question to you guys is do FFLs have any knowledge of why a person is denied and if so do they have any obligation to say why or are they prevented from saying why?
Don't know about AR purchases but the FFL dealer(s) I've purchased from told me that nobody but them (the dealers) (not FBI OR AFT) knows what kind of gun you're purchasing when purchasing & have been told the same from other people. Apparently purchasing AR's is different??
