Sadly, Sheriff Gillespie won re-election (65% vs 35%). Apparently the people of Clark County are perfectly happy with the high rate of officer involved shootings.

We all should know the answer to this. That can be their policy, but without a 30.06 (or a person in charge asking you to leave your weapon outside) it doesn't matter.baldeagle wrote:Evidently Costco's policy regarding the carrying of firearms is company wide. I'm not sure how that applies in Texas, where a 30:06 sign is required to forbid carrying.

Re: CHL holder killed by police in Las Vegas at a Costco
That assumes the drive was working at the time of the shooting and then went bad later. In that case I agree that the data would almost certainly be recoverable. If the drive did fail two days before the shooting, as they claim, then the cameras feeds wouldn't have been recorded at all and there wouldn't be anything to recover. It may be the truth, but I have a hard time believing the hard drive linked to the one set of cameras that would show what happened just "happened" to fail 2 days before the event.92f-fan wrote:I'm still not believing that the DVR drive was unrecoverable
Ive sent off dozens of dead drives for recovery over the years and basically for about $2000 companies like Ontrack can get data off of anything ... Maybe not all the data but data.. Ive NEVER seen them fail to recover data.
And the Govt has better resources than that
When someone came to me with a dead drive I always said - yep we can get the data - all that matters is how important it is to you ..

Re: CHL holder killed by police in Las Vegas at a Costco
So the 911 caller said Erik pulled his "firearm" and Officer Mosher said he thought Eirk had drawn his weapon. Based on the amount of time on the 911 call between the issued commands and shots fired it seems possible that Erik was removing his holster with the gun in it in an effort to comply with the verbal commands, but that officers perceived that as a furtive movement. There are a lot of assumptions in that statement and we still need a lot more testimony from the other people involved.bronco78 wrote:
back to the post...Did we not hear testimony that Erik had drawn the gun? Does that testimony and that of officer Mosher above not confect? Or am I missing something in context and timing of the event.Mosher testified that he didn’t know that the gun was in its holster at the time he fired. He said he owns the same type of holster, and the gun could be “easily fired” while in its holster.
Someone on this forum had posted a link to a web-based program that flashed a bunch of pictures on the screen and you had to decide if the person on the screen was holding a gun or some other object (i.e. wallet, cell phone, etc.) and then decide to shoot or not shoot. I did pretty well, but it still seems like that could be a real challenge when the adrenaline was pumping.

There are a lot of holsters that leave the trigger exposed. I used to have a nylon holster that just covered the front of the pistol enough to keep it in place, but the trigger was totally uncovered.sjfcontrol wrote:I thought this was interesting...What type of holster allows access to the trigger area? That's too bad. If the officer had gone "hands on" with Erik, he may still be alive and a whole lot of people could have avoided this mess.baldeagle wrote: According to the testimony, Officer Mosher was waiting for Erik at the door and grabbed Erik's right arm as he was walking by Officer Mosher. Officer Mosher denied that he ever touched Erik and said he couldn't explain why the testimony indicated that he had.

Re: CHL holder killed by police in Las Vegas at a Costco
I can tell you that the "North Austin" Costco has a sign about the unlicensed possession of a firearm being prohibited, but no 30.06 or gunbuster signs.
It sounds to me like that Las Vegas Costco had untrained employees and overzealous management.
