In addition to the sign posted in the "Discovery Green" post, they also have 30.06 and 30.07 signs, the park is blocked off with screening, and you have to go through metal detectors to get in. Police and "S.A.F.E. Management" security guards all around. I spoke with one of the security guards who informed me that Discovery Green has always been a "no weapons" park. Interesting, as the park is just a couple blocks from my office and I've walked around the park at lunchtime probably 75% of business days since July and have never seen a no weapons sign, let alone a 30.06 or 30.06 sign.
The Discovery Green Conservancy is a non-profit that runs the park. Their webpage does state a policy of no firearms. So from that standpoint the claim could be considered true. The park is a hybrid public/private company, and the land it is on is owned by the Houston Downtown Park Corp. the property is listed as XV for tax purposes, exempt (government). So it is government property. Hence it should be allowed. Also the Hilton Hotel across the street is on public property, but managed by Hilton. They have had a 30.06 posted in the past even though it is government property too.
