Re: What compact to get?

I ended up getting a Taurus PT111 Pro.
I did look at the Glock 26, the Springfield XD-40 and a few other compacts, but they just did not feel right in my hand.
I picked up the PT111 Pro and it felt good, so I bought it.
Went to the range and it felt even better when shooting.
thank you, again, for all of the advice on what to get.

Re: What compact to get?

Well, Comp-Tec does not make a holster for the S&W Sigma series (yet as they have to purchase the pistol in order to produce the holster, and haven't had enough inquiries (YET) to justify it).
Anyway, they were very prompt in their email answer, and even suggested a different brand "Blade Tech" may offer a holster.
For these 2 points, I give them tremendous credit
First - they know the value of having to purchase a pistol and need to justify the cost, thats just good business sense,
Second - they were honest and even recommended what I can only assume is a competitor.

I assume from the Comp-Tec referral, that "Blade Tech" should be good, but would like to know if anyone has heard of them and has anything positive or negative to say about their holsters.
(this may just entice me to purchase a new gun - more common - for a good holster - which really means, more $$$.. argh

Thank you

Re: What compact to get?

Well, I am looking at the MTAC Minotaur holster for my Sigma 9mm, I like that I can get a different hydex (sp) if I do get a 2nd weapon, or even try to carry my wifes G19.
The Crossbreed looks good, but does not look like they have interchangeable hydex (sp).

With that, my wife, very nicely so gave me a couple hundred to add to my thoughts of about $300- or so, so I can get a Glock 26 or similar.
There is a gun show at either GRB or Reliant Park next weekend, and I think I will go over there and see what cash deals I can make on the 26 or similar pistol and really decide if the 26 is that much of a difference in size compared to the Sigma that I really need a smaller size for concealment.

I wanted to thank everyone who has replied, to help me think this through, with as much knowledge as possible. for that, I do like that this Forum has been created, it has been an extreme wealth of information!

Re: What compact to get?

G192627,
thanks for the insights.
I do agree with you that I do not want to sacrifice safety for the price. Which is why I asked for those with pros/cons, in the hopes that people would recommend those that they have and have used.

I do need to find a good rig, I agree with you there, but other than ordering online, would think a good rig or even a starter rig, is more of a personal item, that you really want to "try on", so where (in Houston) would someone go to try them out? Or is finding one online, that is specifically made for your pistol the best route?

Re: What compact to get?

FL450, thanks, I may take you up on that. I am in Webster myself and I see you are showing Pearland.
I think I will hit Academy and/or Bass Pro to get a feel for all of these that have been suggested, then see who may have the ones that feel good and go from there.

Re: What compact to get?

thanks, all good information.
Sounds like the Taurus PT111 or Millennium pro may be the way to go.

The Sigma (full size) is really (easily) concealable? I haven't tried it yet, but it seems huge compared to all of the compacts that are designed for concealment.

While i can save up for a Glock 26 or similar, I still see no reason to have to spend $500 + when realistically $300 or so should do the job. I am certainly not the Jones' and am not trying to keep up with the Jones' either, so I don't mind driving a Chevy when they are driving a Cadillac, as long as we both can get there reasonably.

The comment "unless its Jiminez Arms", I did not understand. Are they bad? Never heard of them in any readings on here I have done and I don't think I have ever seen them before.
thanks again

Re: What compact to get?

I would love the Glock 26.
I've held it, it seems to be about the right size, but its about $500, and that is, well, out of the price range that I can justify.

What compact to get?

My wife and I both have 9mm pistols, but full size (well her 19 is not quite full, but it is "hers").

She got me a S&W Sigma, and I got her a Glock 19 (yes, she got the much better end of the deal, but I do actually like shooting the Sigma).

Anyway for a concealed carry, I still want to stay with a 9mm, just on ammo price and availability. 380 rounds are double 9mm rounds, and hard to come by, and 40 caliber, while I would like the stopping power over a 9mm, I would never be able to afford to even practice with it.

I would like to get something that is reasonably priced, functions well out of the box. I don't care about brand (as long as I can find it in Houston anyway)
So based on that, and knowing that, at least for now, I am not going to get an entire store in my house, just a small compact to carry.
The only 2 qualifiers, has to be a 9mm and has to be a semi-auto.
What would you suggest?
What are the pros of the pistol?
What are the cons?
What would be a fair price for the pistol you suggest? (if you know, if not, I can certainly google it)

thank you
