Re: Qualification w/40 rounds?
If a student has clearly qualified by scoring 190-200 on the 3 and 7 yard strings (40 shots), can they stop? That is, can he/she qualify with 40 rounds and skip the 15 yard strings -- or must they shoot 50 rounds, regardless? The DPS says "To successfully qualify, shooters must complete this c...

Re: hand gestures
If the situation is bad enough for you to threaten another person's life, then it's bad enough to immediately call the cops. If it doesn't warrant calling the cops then don't use language like that. Because some folks won't be bluffed and will escalate when presented with that kind of situation. If ...

Re: Glock triggers?
If this is a carry gun I would not do anything beyond a good lube and a "-" connector. It's a G17 that you carry concealed for self defense, not a competition race gun that goes back in the bag after a match. What is that 7 hundredths of a second going to do for you? That 100 plus dollar 7...

Re: Any Austin Rifle Club members?
I've been a member for 15 years. For the price it can't be beat. Pros: All outdoor ranges, no indoor lead breathing and magnum concussion reflection. 11 different ranges, from 17 yards to 200 yards. You can draw from the holster, no time limit between shots. Ranges are open sunrise to 30 min before ...

Re: Maximum Distance for Self-Defense Shooting
One story I heard Tom tell about a student was a man sitting on a lawn chair at his momma's house on the weekend, with his nieces and nephews playing in the yard. Some teen came by and started hassling the little kids so the man stood up and told him to leave. He leaves and the man goes back to rea...

Re: SUB2000 at the range
I've been running mine at carbine matches. It sure is nice to only go though 100 rounds of 9mm instead of 223. Since it uses Glock mags I can run my 31 rounders and not have a capacity disadvantage compared to the AR guys. Disadvantages: Mushy plastic trigger. Busy sight picture, small rear aperture...

Re: FN Five Seven
Gary Robert's credibility on the 5.7x28mm platform has been shattered due to his obvious bias and lack of current knowledge on the issue and it would be best if we removed his comments entirely from the discussion. I could go on and on about his inane statements regarding the Five-seveN, but this t...

Re: Cell Phone Snatcher on the loose in Texas
Sorry, but if you let a stranger "borrow" your cell phone then you deserve to get it stolen. Offer to call 911 for them if they have an emergency. If it's not bad enough for 911 then it's not an emergency.

Re: Left handed shooter and bolt action rifles
I'm a lefty and I never shot a lefty rifle in all my life. The only issue is that you have to come off the sights to work the bolt with the support hand. On the plus side, your strong hand doesn't have to move.
Just buy a RH bolt gun.

Re: OC at home with visitors?
What advantage does it give you to open carry at home? This is a serious question for those the OC at home. Draw speed? Comfort? The OC holster fits better? You can carry a bigger gun when you OC? I, myself, never carry my pistol OC, at home, at the range or even out dove hunting. I am interested in...

Re: Practicing with the pocket pistol
I ran my J-frame 640 in the 10/16/2011 Texas Tactical IDPA match. I was top Stock Service Revolver shooter (and the bottom SSR shooter and the only SSR shooter). I was the 2nd to the slowest shooter of the match, out of 31. 210.21 seconds vs. 78.28 for the fastest shooter. But I now know how well I ...

Re: Rifle Scope w/ Red Dot on AR Mounting Advice Please....
What distance are you/they going to be shooting at? If they are new to shooting just put a simple red dot on it and be done with it. Nothing is more annoying than trying to shoot an AR with a scope not fitted to your personal eye relief or trying to get a chin weld because the optic is even higher t...
