Re: Opinions on Ruger SR 1911 .45 ACP

Ruger 1911 Update:

The man at our local gun store checked it out and was able to cycle, chamber, and fire 3 rapid rounds in his ballistics room without error.

Afterwards, I was able to successfully fire 6 rounds of 230 gr ball ammo at our place without fail!

Analysis: I had NOT fully retracted the slide to engage the first shell in the magazine!! My bad...my error... Problem solved. BTW, I really like the feel of the pistol, and ease of cocking, trigger action.

Many thanks everyone for all your helpful input, suggestons!! :cheers2:

Guess I minimized the effort...lol. Still a good effort, but manageable. Think it's a little easier than my Baretta 96, though.

Re: Opinions on Ruger SR 1911 .45 ACP

It is a new 1911 out of the box. There is no way I'd ever buy a handgun, rifle, or shotgun used...unless mine got stolen and no new ones were available anywhere... :patriot: Never know where or what or who has had the used gun.

Anyway, the slide doesn't even catch the first round.

UPDATE: I took gun and magazines back to the dealer this morning. The owner checked the magazines, slide action, etc. Determined that the slide hadn't been back FAR enough!! He loaded and fired off 3 rounds in his ballistics room with no problem! I will try again here and report back my findings.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments!!

Small problem... It WON'T chamber a round even though it cocks ok. Ammo is correct. Same issue with both Ruger magazines that came with it.

It's depressing... :(

Any ideas on what the problem is or MY problem???
Thanks,

Bill
Have you field stripped the pistol and lubricated it?

I'm assuming it strips the top round from the mag and then hangs up before the round goes into the chamber. Will it finish chambering if you bump the back of the slide?

One other thing... make sure you're not "riding the slide" down. "Slingshot" the slide closed.
It won't even strip the first round. Not riding the slide down...pull back & let it slam forward.

Can you post a picture of the problem and the problem ammo please? 1911s can take a bit of break in, especially those that are tight. Lube is your friend. I am from the "nearly impossible to use too much oil" camp. You can easily lube a 1911 without stripping it.
Nothing a picture would show. I use high quality ammo in my guns. Hard to break it in, if it won't load in first place...lol.

Let it slam forward. Didn't have slide locked back & depress lock.

Re: Opinions on Ruger SR 1911 .45 ACP

Yes, I let the slide slam back. Mag is fully in (hit it back..lol). I haven't broke it down and re-lubed it. With my hands, I'd probably not be able to depress that spring... :( Maybe Ruger can check it out and re-lube it?? Not sure how long it was sitting at gun dealers before I got it.

Opinions on Ruger SR 1911 .45 ACP

Morning everyone!

Thinking about getting a Ruger SR 1911 .45 ACP. Opinions? Experience with one? I like the easy racking, light trigger.

Comments, please!
