Jim,

Sounds like you kept your cool, didn't go overboard, etc. Yeah, maybe walking off your property with your gun wasn't best but you realized it and corrected it quickly.

Perhaps dialing 911 and just hanging back would have allowed the police to catch the perps in the act but who knows. I just think it's good you're doing a post-mortem to try and learn from it.

I keep a pair a shorts, T-shirt, flashlight, eyeglasses, phone and car keys on the bedside stand and my gun out-of-sight but within reach just in case.
