Re: May Applications

Checked my mail when I got home this morning and found the long envelope waiting for me in the mail box along with some sticky holsters I ordered.

Plastic in hand.

Maybe we ought to augment the Wally Walk to accommodate the times we're in. Instead of buying ammo, gaze at the ammo shelves, find a clerk and ask if they have any and then go to Academy and look at guns that you can't find ammo for. I think you're on to something!

Re: May Applications

Thank you folks.

I'm a fairly recent transplant to Texas from California where carrying is not at all common. I knew before moving that Texas had shall issue CHL however I wasn't exactly jumping to get one because it wasn't in my thought process. I've always been around guns and pro-gun but the idea of actually carrying a gun felt a little funny to me probably because I was unfamiliar with the concept as a whole.

I found this forum a few years ago and started reading and then started posting once I realized how wonderful the regulars are here. My attitude about the defensive mindset and preparation evolved to where I decided I wanted to get my CHL but it always was one thing or another that precluded me from getting it. I finally made it a priority this year and am got the training and application done.

This is one of my favorite gun forums and the only one I regularly post on because it is so unlike most other gun forums in the attitude of the membership. Now I can finally say I'm a fellow CHLer once my plastic arrives. This is probably some kind of record from date I first joined this forum to when I will have plastic in hand.

I think I can finally, safely lay claim to being a Texan. :txflag:

Re: May Applications

My G19 with a Hopp Customer Leather holster is ready to go (though I'm going to get some MTAC kydex clips for it to replace the steel clips).

I am picking up my S&W 9mm Shield today and will be ordering a sticky holster for both that and my CM9. I still need to pick up a Wilderness Instructor Belt and Magazine pouch for both the Shield and G19. I am also eyeing up an MTAC Infidel Ultra for the Shield but I want to try the sticky holster first.

I will have some decisions to make about EDC once I start carrying but the Glock may not be carried as much as I originally thought.

My status is still saying awaiting receipt of required materials. I tried calling DPS yesterday and waited for a half hour without getting the chance to talk to anyone before I had to hang up. I guess I'll know when it shows up. :???:

zephlor wrote:Hi,

I'm in the same boat as you guys. My instructor told the class that if we snail mail our documents it is taking about 60 days but emailing the documents are only taking 30 days. For this reason I emailed the docs, now I'm thinking I should have sent them via regular mail.

Application - 5/14
Fingerprints - 5/20
Class - 5/26
Emailed Docs - 5/26

Status - Waiting on Docs.
Still waiting here per the site this morning. The agonizing part is not seeing any status update at all to know if they think they still need some piece of information or not.

LBTHR333 wrote:I'm thinking the same thing SQLGeek. I emailed mine in on the 5th of May, got a response that they were received and forwarded for processing on the 10th, and I've been watching for an update since then but it still says it's waiting on documents to be received. I called yesterday and actually got a lady on the phone who said that it could take up to 8 weeks before document status is updated.
Well I'm glad at least to hear that somebody else who emailed the documents in is encountering something similar though I am sorry you are. I wonder if they are waiting to further update our status until another change is in place since they already emailed us that they received the documentation? Who knows, I'm just speculating at this point. I'll continue to wait and will keep practicing carrying around the house.

Re: May Applications

I called DPS and their automated recording asked that we wait 30 days from submission of the documents before inquiring as to their status. I will try next week I suppose if nothing has been updated by then.

Maybe I should have mailed mine instead of e-mailing the documents. :???:
