Though I have not yet tried it ( have not traveled to one of THOSE states in many years) I've heard of shipping it to your self in the last state you are in prior to getting to say.. NY... one of the UPS/ FEDEX shipping retail stores... and ship it to that same address addressed to your self..... done with business, stop in and pickup your package.

This is an unconfirmed internet forum suggestion I have not researched further due to lack of need... so take it for what it is, just an idea to look at.
