Re: Hello from Round Rock...new member and pending CHL!!!
I shot a few Glocks during the past few months...and am going to be entering a competition with MTICop in May I think...I have not ruled ANY make or model out, as there are so many I need to try and have NO experience with at all.lkd wrote:My wife luvs her XD9. However, the new Glocks have interchangeable backstraps, so I wouldn't rule them out for the ladies.
Thanks for the feedback!

No I haven't, thank you so much for pointing me in that direction!!joe817 wrote:HI Navy Tech, welcome to the forum! I have the P6 and am proficient with it...so that is what I will use until I get more experience and can make an educated purchase for that particular piece. I want to shoot the Springfield XD Sub-Compact in 9mm and see how that feels. My issue has been finding a small enough grip, and the single stack on my P6 played into that issue perfectly. So, I am still searching.
As far as choosing the proper gun for you, have you looked at the great article in The Cornered Cat? If you're not familiar with that website, it's one by women made FOR women. It's great.
Here's the portion that address choosing a gun with the proper fit for you:

Re: Hello from Round Rock...new member and pending CHL!!!
You are most welcome Mastadon. It was an honor to serve, and is something I take a fair amount of pride in. I am the only female in my family to serve, and am the only PERSON in my family to enlist, and actually make it to my EAOS without some issue leading to a less than honorable discharge. I used to tell my father that I am the only son my family ever raised! While I was not in a combat unit, I was forward deployed during Desert Storm on a ship in Saudi...my ship was supporting the USS Kennedy Battle Group. I love that the Navy allowed me to see some of the world. My only regret is that I didn't stay in and take my career as far as I know I could have.Mastodon wrote:Welcome Navy Tech.

Re: Hello from Round Rock...new member and pending CHL!!!
That is a very generous offer! I will take you up on it! Like LT said, I shot his Kahr and it had a lot of bite, but maybe I can handle it better now. Only way to find out is to try, huh! Thanks for the welcome!Estand wrote:Welcome Navy Tech!
Another Round Rocker here too.
I think from the thread you are still undecided on carry piece. I carry a Kahr P40 or S&W/M&P 40compact depending on clothing/weather, etc. If you want to try either I am in the neighborhood and Red's is nearby.

Re: Hello from Round Rock...new member and pending CHL!!!
I would say that is a very good guesstimation on the number LT. For sure no more than 750. And YES, that is a hand cannon for sure, but you are right, my grip has changed from the first few days out, and I am getting better on placement with the beaver-tail in the webbing, and I am not choking the grips so much anymore. I wore grip marks for a long time after the first few times out at the range. Gotta go get some more shells for the weekend with MTICop...we won't be making the Mesquite trip, but will for sure be getting in some time there in San Antonio.longtooth wrote:You are welcome Navy Tech. You have to shoot a few to know where your comfort level is. My bet is that since you have gained more experience & your grip has matured, that you will find the perceived recoil in different handguns to be more managable than a couple of months ago.
The K40 is a little hand cannon for a young lady new shooter.
For you guys & gals that dont remember, she took that XDm40 & shot a perfect 250 for her 1st CHL qualifying run. & that w/ only about 500 rds under her belt.
How close a guess is that Maam.
I will stack her up against the 1st 100 men walking into WalMt any day.
Good shootin young lady.
LT
And YES, Keith B, I consider myself incredibly fortunate to have LT and MTICop as knowledgable guides as I navigate my way through this new aspect in my life. I intend to utilize their experience to grow as much as I can in this arena.

Thats the one I want to try next. I liked my boyfriends XDm which is why I think I will like the SC as well. We shall see!Kythas wrote:Welcome to the forum!
Have you tried shooting an XD? I carry an XD40SC and it fits my hand much better than any Glock has as I have fairly small hands.

Re: Hello from Round Rock...new member and pending CHL!!!
The P6 is a Sig...thats the military classification. "These are SIG P6 9mm pistols, which were the German Police and Military version of the P225. Standard single action-double action, with SIG decocker." Pulled that from a resale site. Here is a blog on it that was informational to me...frazzled wrote:I can't find what a P6 is.
If youi're comfy with 9mms (excellent) Have you tried the Walther PPS single stack? There's also a Kahr to test. Of course if calibers don't bug you a nice Kimber Ultra Carry or Springfield version can do you for in .45 and .40 as well. I've heard good things about XD types.
Anyway welcome.

I shot a Springfield XDm .40 for my CHL class and love it, and am very accurate with it. Caliber doesn't bother me so much as the size of the weapon WITH the caliber. I shot a Kahr that was either .40 or .45, and putting 5 rounds through that was all I could handle, I thought my wrist was going to snap. (thanks for the lesson Longtooth!). I shot a Kimber .45, and that was a little too meaty for me as well.

Hello from Round Rock...new member and pending CHL!!!
I joined last week but am just now getting around to saying hi. My boyfriend and I have been going to the range together, and he encouraged me to get my CHL, we we did that class this month and now I am just waiting for the plastic. My check cleared yesterday so we shall see how long it takes. I grew up in East Texas, and shot my brothers .22 rifle a bit, plinking mostly. I went Navy after high school but only shot once in boot camp...I was, as my name suggests, a computer tech and was exempt from all other duties onboard my ship. I had gone to Reds in Pflugerville a few times just shoot, but again, I only went in for .22 shooting. MTICop introduced me to Longtooth, and a Baretta Px4 Storm I believe...and the rest is history. I have been going to the range with a pretty sweet Sig P6, and have shot MTICops impressive array as well...and have to say that I am really enjoying every aspect of it. My CHL instructor in San Antonio was very knowledgable, and I am looking forward to seeing where I can go with my training.
So, hello from Round Rock from a new enthusiast...I look forward to reading the threads, and learning from the vast experience represented here.
