The D90 is a great camera, but only if you get use all of its additional features that add $400-500 over the D5000 kit, particularly the in body focus motor. As the OP doesn't seem to have any previous SLR experience, the D5000 should be more than enough camera for him. I even had previously SLR photography back in the good ol' 35mm days and I found the D5000 to be way more camera than I needed.
All of this is my $.02 of course, but there's no need for the passive aggressive responses.
