Mosin's were sighted in with the bayonet attached. They will shoot high and to one side without it.

Sure. Took these this morning. FYI, from the markings on the shank I've identified it as coming from Izhevsk (Soviet Union). I've gotten it cleaned up, though from what I've read there will be more cosmoline seeping out of the barrel after a trip to the range.

You are correct. It is an Ishvesk. They were kind of rough at that time due to putting out as many as they could for the war. Couldn't tell but if the sling slots have screws it's a pre-war stock...if they are pressed in it is a post war refurb stock. The Mosin Nagants have become my thing lately...still learning after 4 months of research. And bought another one today. :woohoo

You got some up close pics of the barrel shank? And the type of slots for the sling?

I have 6 Mosin Nagants so far. They make for cheap fun with a lot of history. They are not an all day shooter though. I bought a Marlin model 60 for plinking fun because they were pretty cheap. Can't go wrong with the 10/22 though.
