Only 11 native Texians died at the Alamo. The rest were outsiders. 55 men from "Yankee" states died defending the Alamo (nearly 1/3 of the total). . . . but as Hank Hill (also not a native Texan) discovered. . . neither were Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston, Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie, or William Barrett Travis.
In fact, many of our revered founding fathers were men running from some sort of scandal, controversy, or failure.
