Look at the followers on these two mags. They are BOTH Sig P238 factory mags. If your mag that is stovepiping has a follower that looks like the one on the right, it's a Sig copy of the Mustang mag that Sig originally put out with the P238. They no longer supply this mag for the very reasons you are experiencing. So, look at the profile (not down from the top) and if your mag that is causing problems has a follower that looks like the one on the right, it will continue to do so. If so, I would contact Sig and get an RA to send that mag in and swap it for a later model.E150GT wrote: weird, mine was stovepiping a lot last time at the range, but I was only using the factory mag...

I bought 2 Colt Mustang 12lb springs

Re: Anyone on the Sig Forum?
You mean like this?E150GT wrote:my sig magazine looks like the bottom one. I bought some colt mustang mags for $17 on midway. While they are a little different, they work, but they are backup mags only. Does your P238 stovepipe a lot on the last round? Mine seems to do that quite a bit now, as well as eat the brass up. I look at the spent shell and its all bent up for some reason. Just thought I'd ask.
The Colt Mustang mags work, but they are known to fail to eject on the last round in the P238. That's why Sig changed their follower design. I have just been informed (on the Sig forum) that the follower design on my malfunctioning mag is the same as the Mustang follower, and was probably old stock from Sig, as the Mustang follower design is no longer used by them.
The only failures to eject I have had were with the new mag I bought locally. It ejected but caught in the ejector port, and got the case bent several times in 50 rds. I have a little over 300 rounds through the gun at this time. One thing about the P238 is the notorious short life of the recoil spring. Many have changed to the 12lb Mustang spring from Wolff Springs. I ordered two. You might try one if you have a significant number of rounds thru your 238 (over 4-500) and see if that helps. I agree though that the reviews of all 3 types of P238 mags are a mixed bag.

Re: Anyone on the Sig Forum?
Thanks to neilp, I got my question posted, and a few replies. Turns out that the magazine I bought is one of the original Sig P238 mags that was prone to problems. I tested it out at the range today, and sure enough it had problems ejecting the last round several times. I took it back to the store where I purchased it, and got a refund.
I don't know what's up with the Sig forum though.

Re: Anyone on the Sig Forum?
Yes, I have seen both of those on the Sig forum, thanks. The one at the bottom in your photo is like the one that came with my late April 2010 P238. I have also read that the one with the bump in the follower is newer, but have also read of problems with that one too. I have also seen a picture of a third type, but I have never seen one with the type of follower I bought today, hence my desire to track down info on it. Perhaps it's even newer than both of yours and the third type. Or.....?Bashful wrote:Howdy!!
It seems like the P238 has had some feeding problems that are attributed to mag design. There are 3 different mags that are out, with mixed results according to the forums.
I have two p238's, both 'born' in January 2010 and I haven't had any problems with mine through about 500 rounds each.
The top mag is supposed to be the 'latest and greatest'.
I have 250 flawless rds thru my P238 SAS and it is now carried daily in my pocket. The magazine in question is the spare I plan on carrying along. I plan to shoot again tomorrow, so I will at least be able to test it out.

Re: Anyone on the Sig Forum?
OK, thanks, here goes:Kevinf2349 wrote:Have you posted your question on here? There are some really knowledgible people on this forum and they all don't own 1911s or revolvers
Give it a whirl (if you haven't already done so).
I bought a new P238 magazine locally in a factory Sig package. It is different than the one that came with the gun. I have searched the sig forum and has not seen one with a follower like this.
The new mag is on the right in all pictures. Can anyone shed some light on this type of follower. Is it an old type that has been replaced due to unreliability, or a new style?
Thanks for any help.

Re: Anyone on the Sig Forum?
Thanks for your help. I have a "normal" email address from a major national provider (Road Runner), so I'm not sure what the issue is. I have read dozens of complaints about the approval process.neilp wrote:I'm a member of the SIG Forum. I don't post their much. I don't know what's up with their member approvals. I think you have to use a non-internet based email account (that is not yahoo, gmail, hotmail etc) such as one linked to your ISP. Seems like nonsense to me, not sure why they have that rule.
Email me your Q and I'll post it. npenberthy@yahoo.com

Anyone on the Sig Forum?
I'm pretty frustrated waiting weeks to get approved on the Sig forum. Is there is someone here that could make a post for me? I am trying to identify a magazine for the P238. I just bought it (in a Sig package) and the follower does not resemble any of the ones I've seen. As magazines have been an issue with this gun, I'd like to post a query and a few pics to see if this is a new style or an old one with issues. You can simply word it something like, " My friend has a P238 and......." I will PM you the title and the text (pics are online already).
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
