My CHL instructors always used this range through my original course and two recertifications, which spoke well for its convenience, at least. But I don't believe they'd have chosen it if it was institutionally unsafe. Certainly it wasn't so wild and woolly as the operator's former range on RR 2222--the plinking range there was quite something.

At any rate, I resurrected this old thread to report all is moot now because this range has, in fact, closed. The word I got is that the owner of the land wanted it for something more profitable.
