Guys, I'm leaving the Waiting Room.
On 09/25, 66 days after DPS received my CHL renewal materials, my status changed to "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active." Four days later (09/29) the license was mailed. A day after that (09/30) it arrived in my mailbox--just two weeks before my old license expired.
Best of luck to everyone who's still waiting. There IS a light at the end of the tunnel!

Re: July '08 Applications
60 days have passed since DPS received my CHL renewal documents. Still "processing application." So much for the statutory 45-day turnaround.
My current license expires just under 30 days from now. I'll see what happens first: the issuance of my new license or the expiration of the old one.

Too bad about that response. Guess I won't bother emailing.

Re: July '08 Applications
The 45th day has passed since DPS received the completed documents for my CHL renewal. Still "Processing application." DPS may be making a good-faith effort to reduce its backlog, but I have to say they set a poor example for obeying the law. Anyway, a little over a month from now my current license will expire.

Re: July '08 Applications
31 days after hand-delivering my renewal documents to DPS headquarters my online status has changed from Packet mailed to applicant to Processing application. This is encouraging.

Re: July '08 Applications
Today it's two months till my CHL expires and about one month since I hand-delivered my completed CHL renewal documents to DPS in Austin. I just checked the online status of my application and it's still "Packet mailed to applicant.

Re: July '08 Applications
Dropped off my renewal materials at DPS headquarters in Austin yesterday, July 21, or about 90 days before my current CHL expires. When I did the same thing for my previous renewal, four years ago, the clerk informed me I'd get my new license within 45 days, as the law requires. No such statement this time around. From what I've read lately about delayed responses, it'll be interesting to see if I receive the new license before the old one is no longer valid.
