Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
I guess my issue is that 30.06 sign has nothing to do with it, it sounds like he's acknowledging that they're abusing the sign to coddle people so in the end, they're still going at it the wrong way. If someone is armed and needs to secure in a restricted area, they deal with that. A 30.06 sign used wrong doesn't fix anything.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
I just edited to change proper to improper 30.06.
I agree, for those no familiar with the laws, they might be confused. Either way, the top is posted all over the place and shouldn't be confusing or foreign, and the bottom just doesn't cut the mustard. Although I've never figured out how to actually cut mustard, unless you let it dry.![Smile5 :smilelol5:](./images/smilies/smilielol5.gif)

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
Someone's trying to save space by combining 2 signs on a home made sign vs the TABC provided and required sign and a improper 30.06.
You know what they say about cutting corners to save a buck...........
I assume it's a grocery store, small local place?
BTW, it's not relevant to this thread though.

Thanks for the correction. I have to admit I don't think I've ever read it, I just thought I understood it. So much for thinking.Charles L. Cotton wrote:This is incorrect. The definition of "premises" includes "a building or portion of a building, . . ." Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
It would seem strange for him to say he's not going after people with guns in their cars since it's not illegal and hasn't been for nearly 2 years.bigity wrote:More recently the police chief for TTU has outright stated he's not going to go after people with guns in their cars. He didn't mention anything about campus carry :D
But we're going off track because none of this has to do with 30.06.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
They're still wrong. 30.06 has nothing to do with carrying in a court.
Carry may be illegal if the building does house a court, but they still don't understand the law, and still don't understand that.

Under pressure...... She needs to make a statement. Maybe she's perplexed as to how and what to say, knowing she can't undo what she said. ![Smash :smash:](./images/smilies/smash.gif)

***UPDATE***
According to state legislature, the law Mayor Howard references, Sec. 30.06 in the Texas penal code, is not enforceable if "the property on which the license holder carries a handgun is owned or leased by a governmental entity."
Sec. 46.035(c) of the Texas penal code, however, states that licensed concealed handguns are illegal "at any meeting of a governmental entity."
News 12 has reached out for a response from Mayor Sherry Howard regarding these laws.
I've sent her an email also, asking for clarification..just .. well, you know. Slowly stirring..
Did you ever get a response? I haven't seen anything further in the media, although I'd wonder if they scrambled to try to make it go away. She's an elected official after-all, being that ignorant of law and not having legal council could surely get a few some attention that could be a problem come election time.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
And she's a Mayor? How does a Mayor put a legal item on an agenda without first consulting legal council? She just made herself out to be a complete irresponsible tool.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
No. The only time it's valid is during public meetings, if it meets the requirements which is sounds like it doesn't.SRO1911 wrote:Just moved to a new town, on the front door of city hall (a three room building - if you include the bathroom and closet) are two roughly 6x6 red and white signs that have the proper language for 30.06, one in English one in spanish. They are definitely not valid - too small by far, and are on city property. The city does NOT even have a municipal court, judge, etc.
The only valid reason I can come up with is that the city council meets in the building once a month. or "meeting of a govt entity"
Question is - is the sign enforceable during regular, day to day activities. i.e. going in to pay water bill, picking up local newspaper, etc?

Those signs don't mean anything other than they are a reminder of State law.RedRaiderCHL wrote:I Just graduated from Texas Tech University in Lubbock in May 2014 and the new signs they have entering campus now are something along the lines of "any carrying of unlicensed firearms beyond this point is prohibited"
meaning now you can carry anywhere on TTU campus except inside the buildings. You might know all this already but i figured i would post the update as maybe there are some new incoming students looking for this answer.

Re: Cities improperly posting 30.06 signs?
An invalid sign is no more or less invalid because of wrong contrast, letter size, wording etc. It's just plain invalid from the git go.karlac wrote:City of West University Place, TX has a 30.06 sign on their Rec Center on Bellaire Blvd and West Point St. Wording appears correct, but it is very difficult to read, and photograph, since it is not on a contrasting background.
