In most circumstances, I would look as much like a compliant victim to take his guard down and get to my weapon.

If the fight is already on and my weapon isn't drawn, I'll do the best I can.

It really just depends on the situation.

Drawing from concealment is slow enough. Having to rack the slide, IMO, is really pushing it. I prefer to carry with a round in the chamber and safety on.
