Re: Letter to Anti-Gun Waffle House

I must agree with Russell on the smoking issue. I have asthma, and for many years, there were places that I simply could not go. The few times that I brought up this point to a smoker, his/her response was, "Stay home."

I find "stay home" a rather callous response. A person's desire to smoke is not a necessity--it's a luxury. My desire to breath is a necessity. Why should I be expected to stay home because someone else wants to indulge?

If a person wants to smoke in their cars or at home, or even outdoors (away from entrances), I'm fine with that. When what you do affects only you, it's your decision. When what you do affects others, you have choices you need to make. With rights come responsibilities.

I enjoy shooting my handguns. When I do, I'm exercising my second amendment rights. However, I've moved from Crosby, and I can no longer go out my backdoor and start firing away. People run on the greenbelt trails behind my house, and cars travel the road behind that. Those people have a right not to have my bullets entering their bodies and possessions, and I have to respect that.

Just as there are designated places that I can take my guns and shoot them, there are designated places where others can take their cigarettes.

You can get waffles with the blueberries on the side. They will let you have a plain waffle if you ask them.
