I've seen posts suggesting that "If you carry a gun (CHL) then you need a lawyer, or at least one's number in your wallet or phone".
For those who haven't needed a criminal defense lawyer but carry a number in their wallet/phone... did you actually interview / meet an attorney (without already needing help), or are you carrying a number gleaned from a phone book, website, friend referral etc.
I'm wondering how many people interview a defense lawyer on the long odds that they may someday need one.
Thanks in advance.

Great point. And thanks for your recommendation.
Does anyone have any experience with Bristol Myers? While I have no experience with him, I do appreciate his page on the complexity of weapons charges.
Please forgive my ignorance of lawyers, but is a lawyer who handles "weapons charges" likely to also be the lawyer you would call after a self-defense shooting?
I don't have a criminal or weapons charges lawyer, I would appreciate seeing members' recommendations (especially for the Austin/Travis county area). I hope never to need it but it's always better to be prepared and never need it...
But what about: Have gun. Will travel? :-)joe817 wrote:Wouldn't do much good to recommend my lawyer for someone who lives in Lubbock, El Paso, or Houston.
We have lists for holsters and safes, I think it would be great resource to have a list of "forum member recommended" CHL/RKBA knowledgeable/savvy lawyers.

Re: Whats the name of your Lawyer?
There have been over a dozen posts in this thread, some good jokes (I like Car Talk too), but not a single lawyer's name mentioned.stevie_d_64 wrote:I know of only three lawyers (in Texas) that are absolutely understanding (and knowledgable) about the issue, and they are on speed-dial...
Does anyone mind sharing their recommendations for a lawyer, and what area they're in? Why's would be nice too, but even having a "short list" to start looking at would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance.

I prefer to spend the "100 Bucks" on the holster, the "Hundreds" on the gun, and themarksiwel wrote: I just think its "Funny" that people will drop Thousands of a Gun, Hundreds on a Holster, 100 Bucks on Ammo and Magazines. But Wont take a Few Minutes to look up a phone number in the Yellow pages of a Lawyer.
"Thousands" on ammo to practice with.
And actually I'm very satisfied with a number of sub $100 holsters I've found, but then again I don't actually own any that cost more than $100 - so I may be missing out on something. For IWB I think the $26 DeSantis Insider (IWB) and the $45 (before a referral code; "09-1923" for 10% off an order) Kholsters (I now own 3 of them) are both good holsters and values. And for OWB I'm really liking the BlackHawk CQC 3 - although honestly I've only had it a short while. I certainly don't mean to suggest that a more expensive holster might not somehow be "better", only there are certainly decent affordable holsters.
