tiviti wrote:Out of curiosity, did you go to Baylor? I've been surprised by the number of other students I've found from Houston at Baylor... when I first decided to go there, a lot of the other students at my school didn't know much about it.

I did. I grew up in Sugar Land and went to Baylor from there. Most of my classmates went to UT and/or A&M, and out of 650 or so in our class, I was one of 2 who went to Baylor.

Frankly they should have added 1917 as well (Ags went undefeated and unscored upon, just like they did in 1919.). Are they silly? Yeah, but we certainly didn't start the trend. Heck, USC even claims 1939, when AP awarded the title to A&M. If you want to complain about a school claiming titles they don't deserve, talk to Alabama, who's gone so far as to claim a NC for a year they went 8-2.

The conference titles are dumber. The only big 12 title we have is 1998. But big 12 rules call division champions conference champions, so I guess you could argue we're following their dumb rules.
The big 12s own media guide credits A&M with 3 confrrence championships in football. http://www.big12sports.com/fls/10410//p ... M_ID=10410 (it's on page 6).

I'd prefer we just claimed '98, but if the conference considers them "championships" I can see why someone would want to claim them.

My .02 on the issue.
The national titles are very silly to do now... The timing is what really makes it look bad. It would be different if it was over the summer or something.

The conference titles are incredibly bad. I mean just bad... Smacks of reaching hard to find something to brag about all the way to essentially lying. I'd be embarrassed of it if my school did that. I'm sure 90% of Aggies feel like you do about those.

Florida isn't awesome this year, but they're definitely good, and as you said... you guys have a new Coach, QB, and of course, conference!

We get the Ponies at home. SMU is no push over this year. It should be a difficult test. Not like opening with TCU last year, but tough none-the-less.
Yep, opening up with Florida at Kyle. At least its at home, but still..... :boxing

We play SMU the week after Florida (9-15) so I might watch that Baylor SMU game if its on TV. Its not like I have Aggie football to watch this weekend.... :waiting:

Edit: To make that run even more fun, the only home game of that stretch is LSU. The rest are all away games.
It's on TV Sunday night. It should be interesting. We are obviously going to see a drop off without Kendall Wright and Robert Griffin, but how much is the question. Our OL, TE, RB, and the remaining WR's are amazing. But can our new QB, Florence, get them the ball?

On that note, just found out that A&Ms season opener against La Tech has been posponed to Oct 13th because of Issac.

Now we get to jump into the season with a conference game, an untested QB and a new offense. Hooray!

To make things worse, that bi-week before playing LSU, Auburn, Miss St and Bama in a row would have been nice midseason. Oh well.

Ouch... that's brutal. What a bad break. So the opener is Florida at home? Yikes.

I've never understood that mind set. I had a lady tell me that about a year or so ago. I told her I don't cheer for the owner, I cheer for the team. I'm not a huge Jerry Jones fan, but I AM a Cowboys fan, and have been since I was 6. Through thick and thin, the Super Bowl-less 80's, the 3 championship 90's, and even now. I love and appreciate the history of the team.

I can't be a fan of a team for just one player, either. RG3 was a phenomenal QB. I hope he does well (just not TOO well...). I am a Texas Tech fan, but I can't be either a Patriots fan (Wes Welker) or Rams fan (Danny Amendola) just because they have a player or two from the college I like on them.

Yeah, I understand.
My thing is this: I spent a lot of time, effort, and money at Baylor. I still contribute a bit with graduate events and programs as well as helping to mentor, council, and sometimes hire undergrads today. It's become a big part of me and my life. As a result, I'm much more interested in how Baylor performs than any professional team of any league.

As for the NFL, I only live in a city with a NFL football team. There's no real tie. I've always been a Broncos fan because I lived in Denver as a kid, but that's it. I still like the Broncos a lot, but care less about the Broncos than I do of individuals who mean something to me, like RG3. FWIW, I got to know his parents as well over the years at our tailgate, so I don't know Robert at all, but I somewhat know them, and that adds to the reason I want him to succeed.

Now that Kendall Wright, another awesome athlete from Baylor, is on the Titans, I'll even pull for them. And this is from an old Oilers guy! As long as Kendall is playing and contributing heavily, I'll pull for them. (I won't root for Washington if Robert isn't the starting QB, but if he is, they're my team).

That's kind of a rambling way of explaining myself, so hope it's understandable. :)

I never liked that avatar. I never complained, but I am glad you changed. I got tired of seeing that sorry face. At least it was better than the joker face.
Ha. Sorry. I hate the face too, but the number/joke cracked me up... then, I just got too lazy to change it.

Re: Avatar Change...

You must be using a real QB... Maybe a Heisman with #10?

Watching to see how y'all do will be interesting. I think 6 wins is a best case scenario, but what do I know.

I can't wait!!! I love college football. This will be the first year in a a while that I've cared about the NFL as well.

I used to have an avatar that I found humorous. It was Obama's face with a "665" on his forehead. I received one complaint, but that's not why I'm changing...

I'm changing because I'm ready for college football!!!!

Aren't you??? This time of year is just brutal with only MLB in action... just brutal. Well, football is almost here!! Just less than two weeks before our universities hit the turf and start playing!

Who do you root for? Anyone want to make predictions?
