Re: Brothers, I have seen the LIGHT!! Please forgive me...

I know!!! I'm so sick.
All day I've been on STI's website and I'm really thinking the Trojan is the next 1911 for me.

What is wrong with me? My new Ruger isn't even a week old??? I'm sick. Sick I tell ya!

They are almost impossible to find. I was at 2 major gun stores today who both said they don't think they'll see another one for months.

gwashorn wrote:Be careful, this 1911 disease is very aggressive and it will spread. My safe is becoming heavily infected since my first one. I can't help but feel it will only spread. My XDs are becoming jeolous as they have even taken over my normal carry EDC option. :biggrinjester:
I think my Glocks are going to be able to commiserate with your XD's.

Yeah... It will really test whether my belt is worthy. I will carry as soon as I do some IDPA with it and comfortable with the platform.

Congrats on graduating to an adult pistol ;-)

Now, go get yourself a copy of Kuhnhausen's manuals Vol 1 & 2 and sin no more
Whoa... I'm ordering those right away. I'm going 'all-in' on this 1911 platform.
What's funny is, I still love my Glocks. It hasn't taken away from that at all... only added to the toys I want!

I've loved the good old 1911 45 ACP for 43 years now, ever since I was introduced to it back in Basic Training.
It just feels right in my hands, and when it came time to qualify back then, I shot expert with it. :anamatedbanana
Never have found another handgun that feel so right.

Thank you for your service! :patriot:
Mine feels right too!

Those like nice!

keroseneburner wrote:Congrats on your 1911. Dry firing every chance you get will help get rid of that flinch. :cheers2:
Oh definitely. It's helped me a lot already, but usually later into a session, it will come up more again.
When it does, I put a snap cap in my magazine to test myself.

Great input everyone!! Thanks!!! :cheers2:

Act fast. They are almost impossible to find. I got it at Vance's thanks to Bob. Not sure if they have anymore but they may.

A-R wrote:nice ... I too recently picked up my first 1911, a Springfield loaded that I promptly sold when an STI Spartan came available ... so far I love the Spartan (Springfield was good too, just didn't like the old-style staked front sight on this older model, preferring dovetailed fiber optic sight on STI).

So I've basically now owned the other two closest competitors to your new Ruger. If I could've found a Ruger I probably would've preferred it, but I'm happy for now with my STI (until a stainless Colt Commander comes around for under $700 :smilelol5: )

I'm not quite as awe-struck, because I've fired various 1911s and knew I really liked the platform even before owning one. It truly is a pistol that everyone should own at least one.

I'm working on a home made IWB kydex/leather hybrid holster for my gun. But not sure how much I'll carry it right away (want to do a lot of training to ensure muscle memory of disengaging that thumb safety, plus probably shoot a few IDPA matches with it to work out the kinks, before I'd be comfortable carrying it). For now, I'd like to find a way to attach a tac light so I can use it for one of my home defense pistols ... been looking at one of these and considering ... http://www.trgear.com/osc/eshop/product ... cts_id/216" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Very cool. I'm in agreement on training. I've been shooting Glocks so much that under pressure I'd almost certainly forget to trip the safety.

Thanks! I need to do some homework before I buy a holster. I won't carry until I've trained more with it anyway.

You are now officially infected with 1911itis. It's a lifelong affliction.

Check out Garret Industries Silent Thunder - http://garrettindustries.mybigcommerce. ... -holsters/

I use it as my primary holster.

Nice! Thanks. That's now part of my homework.

Beiruty wrote:How much you paid for you 1911?
It was $699 plus FFL fee.
Jumping Frog wrote:I am glad Vance's came through for you. I've bought from them 4 or 5 times and never been disappointed.

Thanks again for the tip. They were the only place online or Housto or Austin who had a SR1911 left.
They were great to deal with too.

Brothers, I have seen the LIGHT!! Please forgive me...

Brothers, I have seen the LIGHT!! Please forgive me...

for never having owned a 1911 until TODAY.

I ordered a Ruger SR1911, and it arrived today.

WOW. I LOOOOOOVE this gun.

It's my first 1911 and I'm officially ON the bandwagon. I am already thinking about what my next one might be. Wow.

I picked it up today, took home and cleaned, then found out there was still time to shoot, so I hit the local range.

To preface, I'm a Glock guy. I have 4 Glocks (my only handguns besides a little Taurus TCP 380 that I never use, and a Beretta P96 that I also never shoot, ever). I shoot IDPA occasionally with my Glocks, and have always seen the 1911 guys shoot and wondered how it would be, but never thought I'd want to carry a 1911.

OK... I've seen the light!! I'm now wanting a good carry holster. I love this gun.

I went through 200 rounds with zero issues. It fired every time, and when I didn't mess up, it shot perfectly accurate. I'll post target pictures below. I have a little flinching issue occasionally. I guess it's getting used to the .45 ACP. It doesn't really kick much, but I constantly battle the occasional 'anticipation flinch'. (I'd consider myself only an average shooter anyway)

So, I'll start with the target pictures first. The B27 target was at 10 yards, and the "star" target is at 15 yards.

(excuse the quality of pics... iPhone pics are all I have right now)
also, the orientation may be off... sorry.

Now for pics of the new gun. Taken at the range also w/ my iPhone. When I get time, I'll take nice pics with a real camera...
