The fact that he is former LEO and never knew this illustrates the entire problem with our system here.
I'm not singling him out, but it's obvious that very few LEO's have any clue about this particular law, and have been solely focused on the revenue generating speeding ticket. I will agree that it can provide a dual service of finding bad guys on the road through a random traffic stop, so it's better than a speed camera, but STILL, if the actual letter of the law was enforced, the roadways would be much more pleasant and you wouldn't have the road rage created by those blocking the left lane to 'teach a lesson'.

Re: Pulled Over by DPS
You will be ticketed very quickly for driving in the left lane while not overtaking someone. It's ticketed like speeding is here.PUCKER wrote:I really love me some autobahn!!txflyer wrote:And that is why different speeds are well managed in Germany on the autobahn. Drive right is strictly enforced as it should be here. I don't know how many times on the Bush turnpike I have to move all the way to the right lane to pass the idiots who aren't even doing the speed limit (70).
I really wish the troopers would write them up.
Words cannot express how awesome it is to drive it! Drivers over there have a totally different mindset, at least from my personal experience. My experience was that those that wanted to go slow kept right (also those that were mandated, in certain sections, to do that - ie - trucks), those that were cruising along kept in the middle, those that were hauling were in the left lane and then would move one lane over after passing, and stay there again until passing.

No one ever said "so let's do as we please" or "do as you wish".Abraham wrote:Yes, of course the world is filled with others who frustrate us with their incompetence - so let's do as we please - and idiotic laws, don't get me started...
Foolish laws, incompetent others, the heck with that and them, do as you wish...
Any guesses as to those who primarily adhere to that perspective?
What I stated is fact however... yes, the laws are poor and designed almost solely for the revenue, and yes, we have a poor system of driving and creating licensed drivers. Do you think the opposite?
We currently have on the books, as I understand it, a law against being in the left lane without overtaking... is that ever enforced??

Speeding is extremely selfish - Consider the rest of humanity and quit speeding ...
I'll step off my soapbox, but I'm serious about what I stated.
...selfish is THE word...I did it when I was a kid 'cause I thought I had to...did it when I was a cop cause I HAD to...when I quit, I decided I wasn't going to be in that much of a hurry ever again...so I don't purposely speed...and when I look down and see that I am...there's the brake pedal...my business is NOT more important than others...nor are there lives less important than mine....
All true, but however, some speed limits are a little ridiculous. Speed doesn't kill... the difference in speed kills.
West Texas highways and modern vehicles being limited to 70 mph is ridiculous. The speed limit should be 90 or so, and people driving slowly and not passing, but in the left lane should be pulled over more often than anyone else... but that won't happen because when it comes down to it, it's more about $$ than safety.
In the end, it's the pathetically taught drivers in our country. All the left lane blockers and others with NO CLUE how to drive on a highway.
Spend any time driving in Europe and you'll see just how ridiculous things are here in terms of driving. I wouldn't trade much of anything with Europe, but I'd trade our driving skills (on avg) for theirs any day. And driving laws... Germany has that figured out well.
So personally, I don't speed much, but when I'm out on an empty highway between places like Pecos and El Paso, yes, I will put the hammer down at times. It saves a lot of time when on the highway... and no time when in a city.

Re: Pulled Over by DPS
I have run with a V1 for years. For laser, they're useless. For radar, they work the best, but as was said above, they can be defeated...
However, a driver that drives as if they do not have one at all will stay ticket free.
I recommend those with children think about what 'message' you're sending by using one.
I took mine down when I started to think about that. My daughter was only 2 and kept asking why it would go off. When I noticed that I couldn't answer honestly without sounding like a crook, I removed it.
BTW, anyone who wants to buy a Valentine 1 and does not have children, let me know. :)
