Retrofitted purse?

(wife speaking here, not boxerrider!)

I'm reading the purse threads with interest. My husband spends a lot of time reading this forum, and it finally dawned on me that THIS is where I could find more info on carry-purses.

I have one Coronado purse that is OK, but it was A) expensive, B) delivered VERY late . . . so much so that I had to begin calling them almost on a daily basis to ask when and if it was going to ship, and C) not terribly well constructed when it arrived.

I have another purse that I found on e-bay that is quite acceptable. If it were made of a bit less "stretchy" leather, I think I'd be 100% happy with it as opposed to the . . . oh, let's say 95% happy with it that I currently am. (And I'm tired of the color, but that's just superficial!)

I am looking for another carry-purse, though. I have a VERY small "new purse habit" that's been whispering more and more loudly to me lately. When I look at all the other purses I have, however, I begin to wonder whether we could just retrofit one of my other purses. It seems like it would not be too difficult to designate one particular compartment of a decent-sized purse and reinforce it in such a way that it wouldn't be obvious.

On the other hand, our daughter appears to think she's part raccoon and prowls like one. She is seven years old, and both she and our twelve-year-old son have been exposed to and educated about weapons, but . . . I hesitate to put a pistol in a purse that doesn't have a locking pocket. (Yes, I lock up the purse when I get home, then I unlock it when I leave the house.) I don't think that I could pull off the installation of a locking device (zipper, I guess?) as well as modifying a compartment.

Any tips? Experience with retrofitting purses? Or should I just save up and pop for a new purse? I was very interested when I saw some posts referring to purses bought at WalMart. I've not shopped for purses there, especially carry-purses, but hey . . . the price is right!

Just curious . . . and wanting a new purse . . . preferrably of really good leather!
