Thanks for looking.Fangs wrote:After 3 hours of searching YouTube and other video sites I have utterly failed in my attempt to find the aforementioned video of a good Samaritan trying to grab a robber's gun and getting shot. I ran across it while watching robberies on YouTube a few months ago and I guess it has been removed.
Basically a slightly overweight customer waits until the robber is distracted and then grabs for the gun. The robber takes a step or two backwards and shoots the customer at least 3 times. The good Samaritan goes limp and drops to the ground. It's a very sobering video to watch after so many "beat the robber with a broom" videos. The robber had a revolver, IIRC.

Of course, if you met me, you'd know that I already very disarming.

I'd like to see that when you get a chance.Fangs wrote: I've also seen a video somewhere on YouTube where a GG tries to grab the BG's gun in a convenience store robbery and the BG quickly steps back as he empties the gun into the GG. Very sobering clip, I'll post it sometime when I'm not on my phone.

Re: crazy gun video
I was talking about Krav Maga disarming techniques which are much as Steve described - with the addition of pivoting so that you have an even greater chance of being out of the line of fire. I can tell you that its impossible to hold on to the weapon when somebody applies the correct leverage. If your trigger was in the guard, it would be pretty tough. The video that everyone is dissing is (for me) just confirmation that you aren't going to lose your hand if he does get a shot off while you are doing this.
I have some people in my KM class that no NOTHING about guns. While we were practicing shotgun disarms, I pointed out that even if the gun went off after you had deflected that they shouldn't turn loose - there hand wasn't going to melt off. This was a revelation to several.
Cobra Medic and I are on the same page here. The value of this video is to show that if you really have to grapple with a gun, its only the muzzle you need to worry about.

The FBI's LEOKA reports prove them tragically wrong. Year after year.

What part of the LEOKA report are you looking at?Cobra Medic wrote:That's true, and I'm not suggesting this guy is some sort of rocket surgeon, but there's a lot of people who insist it's impossible to beat a drawn gun or it's impossible to disarm someone who has their gun drawn.AndyC wrote:The slide tearing my hand is the least of my concerns and is of minor relevance (it may, however, be earth-shattering news to noobs) - but the guy's focusing on the wrong problem.
Oh, and a gentle word of advice - do be careful how quickly you throw out the "grasseater" insults, sonny - some of us have been doing this for real for probably longer than that kid has been alive.

Gee, I don't know how you came to this conclusion from anything I said. IF you can avoid the first shot (which as far as I can tell, requires both skill and a lot of luck), you will have your hands on the gun, one of them on the slide. If you've done your job correctly and been lucky, the gun won't be pointing at you. I find it reassuring to know that a second shot won't destroy the hand I have on the slide.
My instructor is in the process of learning to teach this skill and is definitely NOT a gun expert, so I've been reading as much as I can from other sources. I found this article interesting: http://www.usadojo.com/articles/deadly-gun-disarm.htm

Does anybody have a link to that youtube video where the guy was grabbing the slide while live firing the gun? I know it was posted on this forum, but can't find it.
