As others have said, it's about demeanor and behavior. You have an open facial expression. Criminals and drug dealers often look guilty (because they are) and suspicious or hostile.

If you told me you were a stoner, the way you dress would be compatible with that image. But it didn't make me assume or guess that you were.

Responding to Ncongruent and G.C. Montgomery, I've seen photos of drug dealers to the gentry who looked and dressed like insurance salesmen. I saw a woman who looked like the leader of the ladies' Bible study group, who blew over 0.3 on a Breathalyzer.

OTOH, I've met bikers who would scare the pants off you on first sight, who collect toys for kids in the hospital and ride honor guard for deceased soldiers.

I just don't judge people by the way they dress or their tattoos or hair.

Thanks.

I think vests (like cowboy boots) stand out less in semi-rural and small-town Texas than in a city or in the Northeast. People sitll have cattle and horses in Texas City.

I should clarify this. I was asking people who met me to comment. Don't be shy. I know I don't resemble Cary Grant or even John Wayne.

Several people have met me wearing a vest. I wear them all the time in cooler weather. (I'm not fashion conscious.)

No luck there, either. And he doesn't have a lot of padding.

I don't know for a fact that I've ever "made" anyone, except on one occasion. It was a guy in a cheap suit who might have been a detective or mobster. He bent over to pick up a coin, and a cartridge fell out from somewhere.

I see people with bulges around their waist all the time. If I look closely enough, they turn out to be phones or other electronic devices.

I've even tried with people I knew were carrying (off-duty LEOs). Yeah, they have bulges, but which one is the pistol?
