I used to ride a bike in a serious way before I had a horse (commuting and recreational). I had people throw things at me, force me off the road, and try to grab my handlebars from vehicles. I didn't even bother to note the fingers and obscenities.

I rode legally, including stopping for traffic signals.

Whether someone obeys the rules or pays taxes is entirely irrelevant to committing assault or terroristic threats.

When I was a kid, there were geezers and geezerettes who would yell at people for parking or walking on the public street in front of their house. One of them shot a kid for walking on his lawn. Alzheimer's makes people do strange things.

I ride a horse on public roads in the "country" (such as it is). I have had people yell at me for riding past their house. I once had a guy threaten to shoot me, though in that case I may have been on his unfenced and unposted land.
