They all have their pluses and minuses.
I belong to a private club. It's near my home. I can shoot any time of day. If I'm the only one there, I can do whatever I like (set up multiple targets, etc.). And it's cheap. However, it has limited facilities, and there's at least one loose cannon who makes me nervous.
Public ranges usually cost more, have better facilities, and are run by people who enforce compliance with the rules.
