This is like many ideas that sound good on the surface until you run into the ugly details. The legal system is not a good tool for dealing with failed personal relationships. Ask Clara Harris (2002 Mercedes driver of the year) how it worked for her.

The Carolinas and Georgia, of course, are among the original 13 states and have some antiquated laws still on the books. NC has an offense called "Going Armed to the Terror of the Public," which in some other places is called brandishing.
