Re: FL: Serpents in paradise

Being a nerd, I have to point out that the coconut is the hardest fruit on the planet.

The origin of the name pomegranate is found here: http://www.word-origins.com/definition/pomegranate.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Short version: it comes from the Latin words for apple [with many] seeds. I actually did not know this.

Re: FL: Serpents in paradise

Apples are not mentioned in the Bible. Most likely it was a pomegranate.

;-)

I think the apple comes from late Medieval or early Renaissance European paintings, along with fig leaves.

FL: Serpents in paradise

Celebration, Florida, is a planned community near Disney World that was built from scratch in 1996. It has no slums, strip joints, junk yards, or other undesirable sites. It rate of violent crime is near zero.

It is a functioning town of 11,000 with an elected government and a police force.

The first murder in its history occurred today. A 58-year-old man was found dead on the floor of his residence. Police determined that the death was a criminal homicide.

On Thursday a despondent man barricaded himself in his house and shot himself after shooting at police officers.

"That kind of thing doesn't happen around here."

Until it does.
