WA: Man charged for shooting fleeing burglars

In Onalaska, Washington, in April 2010, a man whose house was being renovated observed signs of attempted burglary. He stayed in the house overnight with weapons. When a husband and wife (ages 56 and 32 respectively) allegedly attempted to enter the property, the property owner allegedly shot at them, killing the man and missing the woman.

The sheriff did not charge the property owner, but the prosecutor has charged him with manslaughter and assault. [I originally wrote incorrectly that the homeowner had been indicted.]

The only point that I want to highlight here is that not every state has the kind of ironclad castle doctrine or sensible grand juries generally found in Texas.
