As promised, I'm back. I found some good dope on shooting ranges but have more neighborhood questions.

We're in the apartment and looking at houses on weekends. We looked at homes in a few neighborhoods and would like to get opinions from anyone who lives, or recently lived, in one of the five areas on my map. Work is in Greenway Plaza. Please excuse my lack of artistic talent.

Re: Houston Neighborhoods

Thanks to everyone for your comments and advice. We decided to rent a few miles from my job and get a better feel for the city, traffic, et cetera, before locking ourselves in by buying a house. It might cost a little more to wait but there are considerations beyond money and we want to be sure we're happy where we live. On the other hand, we might save some money by waiting, especially with having the time to find a bargain.

I started work this week and we're still getting settled in. Once things get back to normal I'll be back with questions about gun stores and shooting ranges.

Houston Neighborhoods

Merry Christmas everyone!

I'm relocating to Houston for a new job in the greenway plaza area. Can anyone suggest some good neighborhoods? I'm looking for something safe and affordable and I want to buy while mortgage rates are low. I was in town looking this week. I need to stay under 1/4 million (hopefully under $200,000) so I can't afford River Oaks or West University. Driving through more affordable areas near work, I saw too much graffiti and gang bangers (or wanna-bees) for comfort. Looked like some even had prison tats. Not a good environment especially when we start having kids. Some of my coworkers live in the Woodlands and I drove out there and it looks real nice but the drive was over an hour and that wasn't even during rush hour. She liked it so maybe that's our best choice but I hope you have some other suggestions so I don't have to live in my car. :???:
