Re: I have gone and done it…first tupperware firearm.

I shoot M&Ps, not Glocks because of the grip angle. However, other than grip angle, they are almost identical. Did you check the sights off a rest to see it the rear sight needs to be drifted over? If not, I would recommend doing that. Also, do some dry firing and make sure you are not moving the pistol to the left when breaking the trigger. The triggers on these things are much different that 1911s (not as good) but you can get used to them with a little work. My M&Ps don't group as well as my 1911s but they are not as tight. The chambers are really loose on the M&P, etc. You can get an aftermarket barrel that will improve accuracy but, for IDPA, that is not needed. You may also want to get a trigger job on the pistol if the pull is heavy. They can be taken down to very low pulls (2 lbs) if you are only going to use it for competition.

Best suggestion is to just put in more trigger time (both live fire and dry fire), concentrating on pulling the trigger straight back and finding the finger position on the trigger that will help you do that.

Re cleaning, these things can go a long time without major cleaning and still be completely reliable. I lube mine up every other time out to the range (use Royal Purple Synthetic Oil and apply per the owners manual). I quickly wipe things off when I have the pistol apart for the application of the lube. All of this takes a couple of minutes at most. I give it a really good cleaning once a year whether it needs it or not (did it just before IDPA Nationals last year even though the pistol was running fine). I use a spray solvent to clean the plastic part, just be sure that whatever you get is suitable for plastic pistols. I have been using Shooters Choice Polymer Safe Quick Scrubbing Action Cleaner for a 6 years with good success. This lube/cleaning regime has worked well for me and my pistols look good after 6 years of service.

My M&Ps have grown on me and I really like them. I like my 1911s a lot but if it hits the fan, I will be grabbing one of my M&Ps.
