Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
I did post but that was months ago. The first time they came back, the trigger pull was extremely heavy on both pistols. I talked to customer service and they gave me the specification on the weight of pull for the recall trigger. Both of mine were above that so they issued a call tag and had another go at it. The replacement parts (paper work seemed to indicate that they may be version 2 of the recall trigger parts) were installed on the second trip. Trigger pull is now probably about as good as can be expected.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
After a second trip back to the factory (where they replaced a lot of the parts they installed in the first "recall" trip), then lots of dry and live firing, the trigger pull on my 2 XDs are down to around 6 1/2 pounds. Still a long trigger pull on them. The sights were off a good bit on both of them. I was able to move the rear sight on one and got it sighted in. Need to work on the other one next. Those rear sights are really installed with a lot of interference fit, don't think they will fall out. I will keep them for the time being but am really liking the Shield I bought while these were at the factory last fall.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
Excaliber,
I am hoping that mine will work out for the same reasons you expressed. They are small pistols that pack a lot of punch. I talked to SA this afternoon. They were very nice but not much they could tell me until I can check the pull of the triggers. I did go out to PSC this afternoon after work and put 100 rounds through each pistol. No issues with reliability with either one. I was shooting at 7 yards, trying to keep all shots on small paper plates that are about the size of the "zero down" section of an IDPA target. I was using my shot timer and would draw on the beep. The course of fire was to draw and fire two shots on one paper plate then transition to the second plate and fire two more shots. The best I could do (keeping all shots on the plates) was 3.16 seconds. More normal was 3.6 - 3.8 seconds. My best split was 0.32 seconds but most were in the 0.4 - 0.5 range. Transitions ran in the 0.5s. My first shot was also slow (1.60 - 1.9 seconds from the beep to the first shot). All of these times were when I kept all four shots on the plates (more than 50% of the time). I had to really focus on my trigger pull to keep from pulling the shots just off the plate low and left. I may be expecting too much from such a small pistol. My normal splits run 0.2s with my M&P 9 Pro and my draw and transition is faster as well.
What are you seeing with your XDs now that you have the parts polished up? How much are you giving up in accuracy/speed vs a full size pistol? I did notice that using the extended magazine instead of the regular magazine helped to improve speed/controllability a little but I will want to carry with the regular magazine most of the time for best concealment.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
My two XDs pistols came back this afternoon from their second trip to the factory. I am very disappointed. Nothing was polished and the trigger pull is still high (will have to borrow a different scale as mine does not go high enough). The paperwork with the pistols states that they replaced the trigger with safety, the sear and the improved disconnector on both pistols. I am wondering why they left the factory from the recall if these parts were bad. I will be on the phone with Springfield tomorrow for another call tag to get them back to the factory for the polishing/trigger pull reduction that was promised on the last trip to Springfield. This is turning into a project that is more trouble than it is worth.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
Another update on my adventure with the XDs. In an earlier phone conversation with SA, they told me that is was possible to get the triggers down to 4 pounds. However, after I was able to get my triggers tested (both above factory spec), I had another conversation with them to get a call tag. This time, they told me that there was no way to get the post recall triggers down to even 5.5 lbs much less 4 pounds. After some conversation, they had me talk to the guy that does the work on these triggers. He told me that about the best he could get the post recall triggers is 6.5 pounds. I asked what he would do to accomplish this and he told me lots of polishing. Both pistols are up there now for whatever they can do to them to improve them. I will update when they get back.
My biggest complaint with the post recall pistols is the loooong pull of the trigger. It feels almost like a double action revolver. I will shoot these when they get back and see how the splits come out with a shot timer. If I can't maintain 0.3 seconds or better with reasonable accuracy, it will be decision time.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
I got my 2 XDs 45s back at the end of December. The triggers were heavy with a long pull (felt like I was pulling on a double action revolver). I put 250 rounds through each pistol and did lots of dry firing. The smoothed out a little but still a long heavy pull (don't know how heavy as my trigger gauge does not go that high). I called Springfield Armory about this today. I told them that the trigger is significantly different than what is was went I bought them and that, if they had a trigger like that when I examined them in the store, I would not have bought them. Since the pistol trigger is so different, I asked for my money back. They said no to that. I was told to check the trigger pull. The spec for a recall pistol is 5.5 to 7.7 pounds. If it is above that, they will issue a call tag and work on the trigger. I told them that I did not want to send them in just to get a trigger that is 7.6 pounds. She assured me that they would take them down to 5.5 pounds if I had to send them back. She said it would only take two weeks as it will go to a different department than the recall department. She also stated that they did trigger jobs on XDs pistols and could take them down to 4 pounds but, because of the recall, they are not doing any "special" trigger jobs now.
I will need to borrow a gauge from a friend to see what I have. If they are over 7.7 pounds, they are going back to SA. Will update when I know more.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
I asked about the roll pin as well as I DO NOT want that in a thin piece of plastic. My concern is that it could come out or break the grip safety and jamb things up, making the pistol inoperable. I expressed that this is a self defense pistol, not a match pistol and it must be completely reliable. The person I talked to assured me that they have considered movement of the roll pin and that it won't come loose. They also indicated that it had an actual function (Seemed to indicate that it connected or held two parts together but I can't imagine what it could be since the grip safety is so thin already. I could not get any additional information). I look forward to their update next Friday on their web site. If it does not have anything of substance in it, I will call them again.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
Folks,
I was just relaying information that I got from SA. I think this may have been the first incident that they got a report on and decided to react rather just inspect and return the pistol. I wish I knew more about the foreign object that was in the pistol and where it was found. Foreign objects can make their way into any firearm so I am hoping there is more to this than we know and agree that it would nice if they shared the details (I also realize that lawyers may not let them disclose any additional information). I do have to wonder if this recall is the results of an overzealous lawyer that is not being tempered by some sound engineering judgement?
Re the doubles, do you think those could be a result of someone trying to do a trigger job that went south? I tried to improve the trigger on a Ruger 22 semi auto pistol 30 years ago. It doubled every time I tried to fire it with the case failing on the second shot. I sent it back to Ruger, they replaced the parts and returned the pistol with a note saying "don't do that again". There was no recall because this event was the result of operator error, not a design flaw (and this was before the lawyers took control of everything).
We had our club IDPA match yesterday. One of the shooters had a Glock 9mm go off when the slide closed following a magazine change. He was being videoed at the time and it was very clear that his finger was off the trigger (and out of the guard) and the trigger was in the rear position (did not return forward when he took his finger off the trigger). The pistol only fired one shot (fortunately into the berm) and then functioned correctly the rest of the stage. I don't know any more about this event but have watched the video a number of times to make sure what happened. Does anyone think Glock will initiate a recall of all their pistols over this event?
Look forward to getting this one in the rear view mirror.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
Just got off the phone with SA, second level up on the recall. I will say that the people at all three levels that I have talked with have been very polite and did return my phone calls (big plus in their favor).
I did learn from them what caused this recall. It was around one pistol (and it was not the you tube video that was linked in on this post where the woman was getting doubles). The person that had this pistol went to the range to shoot it. When he inserted a loaded magazine in the pistol and closed the slide, the pistol went off and fired several rounds without pulling the trigger. He was not able to duplicate this event after it happened the first time. He talked with the folks at SA and they asked that he send it in. They found a small metal particle in the pistol but don't know where it came from or how it got there/in there (was not part of the pistol). They were not able to duplicate the event but saw how it could happen and that made them realize that they needed to make a change in the design. They have been working on a redesign since that time and still don't have it finished/fully tested (hope either later today or early next week on that). They have been training people on how to implement the fix so that once the design is complete and the parts are ready, they can get to work. SA would not give a date on the return of the pistols but it is probably out at the 10-12 weeks, maybe longer as they are still finalizing the fix. I did suggest throwing in an extra magazine when the pistol is returned to take the sting out of this mess (and mentioned that Ruger did that on their recall). Don't know if they will do that. I also asked again about getting my pistols back until the dust settles. Got a no on that because of the lawyers and liability. And no, we can't get our money back either.
They also mentioned that they will update the FAQ section of the web site every Friday going forward.
Looks like we are in for a long wait. If you have not sent your pistol in, you may want to think about what you will do.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
Whining??? Lets see, you buy two new cars and you have not even had a chance to drive one of them. The dealership calls you and tells you that they recommend that you bring them in for a recall (voluntary, not mandatory) even though your cars seem to be ok and don't exhibit any problems they describe. They tell you that you will have them back in 30 days :-(. Now, you have to drive 1.5 hours to take the cars in to the dealer and take a day of vacation to do that (put a price on that). A week after they get to the dealer, the dealer tells you that it will now be 10-12 weeks before you get your cars back and that they are just now figuring out how to fix your cars so you realize that it may be longer than 12 weeks and the fix may not be the final fix. You ask to get your car back from the dealer until they get things figured out and can turn it around quickly and they tell you no, you can't have your property back (remember the voluntary part?). In Texas, you start lemon law proceedings and get your money back on your car. In the case of our pistols, we have our money tied up for a long time with nothing to shoot and a less than warm feeling that they have a final solution to the problem, and we have no recourse to drive a quick solution to the problem.
Since you think it is whining, please let me hold on to two of your newest pistols until I get mine back and we will see how that goes for you.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
I sent my 2 in last week (was told 30 days turnaround at the time). After reading the post about 10-12 weeks wait this morning, I called and asked to have my pistols returned until the dust settled. They kicked me up one level in their system and then told me they would not do that as they did not want the liability. So I asked for a refund of my money for the purchase of the pistols. That had to go up another level and I have not received a response yet (not holding my breath). If I had known last week what I know today, I would not have sent my pistols in to SA for many months if ever. Last of the XD product I will buy.

Re: Urgent: XDs recall...
There must be a lot of these going out the Fuqua Street Fed Ex shipping center (southeast Houston area). I took mine in today. The lady at the counter looked at the shipping label and knew exactly what was in the box. I was surprised that there were no hassles. In the past, when I shipped a pistol out of that location, they would make me open the box and unwrap the pistol so they could inspect it. Now it is time to wait. I do look forward to getting it back as it is a very nice carry pistol, and easy to shoot with the 7 round extended magazine.
