When I headed security for MSN chat servers I had a Police officer from Redmond working for me that we kept anonymous, and I used "Pat" (which may or may not be a middle name in RPB) as a non-gender-specific name so people wouldn't be intimidated in asking for help (some Boys/Girls are shy) and the Pat worked out well for anonymity when some people threatened violence over being banned/ISPs cancelling accounts/charges being pressed against hackerwannabes etc.... There's at least 1 guy who actually got into Microsoft's Employees only InTRAnet and was really good at getting into places he shouldn't ... who researched me well enough to know my toilet faced West ... That's how I got from 2,300 last week to 3,580 (now 3,600) "Like-Minded" followers so far today (not spammers or paid-for followers)

And to unfollow non-followers in chronological order Oldest First (Giving non-followers time to get past their limitations etc) but those I followed in 2011 and have like 250 they follow have no limit troubles and I say bye ...

If I see they do not follow me and their profile and tweets agree with what I do... I'll re-tweet them a couple times and unfollow them, if they see my "mentions/retweets and follow me, then I re-follow. (Sometimes people just forget to followback and this gets their attention so they see who re-tweeted/Fav'd their tweet ... or not)

I like Twitter because I can get usually News from people on scene before News people publish it.

There's Weather alerts/disaster alerts/traffic alerts for your city/county ... all sorts of news agencies, and government entities on there too... often on breaking news, people invent a #hashtag for that event real fast Example #NewtownSchoolShooting

Tips:
clicking a #hashtag brings up a search for all posts containing that hashtag....

if you want to target a group of people who might follow you if they like what you say, include a hashtag directed towards that group

@_PatJohnson_ with 3,529 mostly Pro-gun Conservative Followers just followed you if you want to follow back ... I'm not admitting that's me publicly, that guy is crazy po-gun pro-rights pro-logical-thinking and I don't want black helicopters waking up my neighbors (kidding)

I keep hitting follow limits and have to unfollow people who do not follow back or who unfollow, but I go in oldest first so I'm unfollowing ppl I followed in 2011 who never followed back now.

I think John Woods has twice what I have, but I'm newer, but I have more than many Brady Bunchers.... Some Legeslators new to twitter see Follower Numbers like Poll numbers for credibility, and it's true most followers are like-minded people..
