When a camera can tell a good guy from a bad guy, then jump down from its perch knocking the gun out of the bad guy's hand ... then I'll feel safer by using cameras for "protection" but I won't hold my breath fro that day for a camera to "protect" me.

Cameras have their uses, but they are limited to recording/reporting what occurred to people who survived and weren't there to witness it..... assuming they are working that day and adequate lighting and no bad guy wore a mask and ... oh wait, the bad guy in the story at the church wore a mask ...

police advised church to install surveillance video cameras

According to Websters Dictionary, Cameras can not "protect" you.
They need more LIGHTS? Safety in numbers?
Those are not ... "the answer"

Bernal said police advised the church to install surveillance video cameras, and the pastor said the congregation will take that advice.
