The issue isn't "too much" carbon, it's just people seem picky about what form it's in ... give it time and then get the diamonds after it all settles and compresses. Then just go around picking up the diamonds the volcanoes spit up.
Meanwhile, make more carbon, fast as you can so future women will be happy and diamonds will cost less.
