I've had a few sets of plates. So far my favorites are these:

They aren't cheap, but after having Safariland, Bulletproofme, Army issue (I'm a contractor, not military) and these current ones, the light weight has me NEVER wanting to go back.

Honestly steel armor worries me. If you've ever shot steel, watch carefully at the spall hitting the ground and ask yourself if you want it hitting your arms or throat. I don't know how much I trust bedliner coatings and that sort of thing, it seems like something like a chunk of Delrin (they make cutting boards out of it) would be a lot better. I've watched videos on it but don't know how many of those are edited for sales.

My best friend was shot in both front and back plates by the same guy in Iraq and the SAPIs shattered, but saved his life, and he didn't have other injuries. That's enough proof for me of the effectiveness of traditional armor.
