It's also not absolutely true. Sometimes, God helps those despite their best efforts to screw things up.

Unfortunately I've seen many Christians use their faith as either a crutch or an excuse for laziness, neither of which are exactly pleasing to God. They expect God to protect them from everything, provide everything for them without doing anything, etc. If it worked that way there wouldn't even be a reason for us to be here on Earth with free will and the ability to make our own choices.

Same with concealed carry. I find it immensely easier to have faith in God's protection when I'm using the brain He gave me by carrying a gun
