"Could" fall under the Castle Doctrine? Really? Sounds like a clear-cut case to me. BG show up with a gun demanding money, shoots owner's "friend" in the leg, and gets his body temperature lowered by the owner.

Only fishiness is whether they knew one another. Perhaps the BG wanted money from that guy for a specific reason. Doesn't excuse the use of the BG gun, but may cloudy the issues somewhat.
