Administration, First Responders and students would learn a lot more from this drill if everyone sat down following the drill and discussed what was done and why, what was not done and why, and genuinely listen to the opinions and suggestions of all concerned.

Among other topics, instead of just “writing off” students caught in a hallway, float some ideas as to how they can try to survive other than “playing dead”.

This would also help turn a frightening experience into a learning experience in the minds of the students.
